The Office for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development of Bosnia and Herzegovina of the Government of Great Britain has formally confirmed that they support High Representative Christian Schmidt in his intention to impose changes to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Constitution of FBiH.
British citizen of BiH origin, Tarik Delic contacted the British Government, and received a reply from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
BiH is facing serious problems
“It is clear that after years of political and legislative stagnation and multiple failed attempts at reform, especially in the Federation, we must find new models for solving the serious problems that BiH is facing,” the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Official London warned that the political situation in our country has worsened in recent years, but also that domestic politicians lack the will to stop it. They also pointed out that there is not much trust between the main political parties and leaders to work on reforms.
Show courage to carry out reforms
“We welcome the intention of the High Representative to deal with this serious situation by seeking a broad and balanced package of electoral integrity measures that improves the functionality of the Federation of BiH in the Parliament, helps the formation of the Constitutional Court and helps in the process of forming the Government.”
Restoring the functioning of BiH institutions is the best way to close the space for malignant actors to spread discord and prevent them from destabilizing the country. We continue to work with the political leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina and call on them to show the courage to carry out reforms that are necessary for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina – the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
