The Director of the United Nations Office for Combating Terrorism, Raffi Gregorian, informed the members of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of the BiH Parliament about the available UN programs in the field of combating terrorism and emphasized that BiH is doing a quality job in this regard.
The members of the Joint Commission, Jasmin Imamović, Marina Pendeš, Sredoje Nović and Safet Softić, spoke with Gregorian in Sarajevo, and during the meeting it was noted that a good job was done in the defense reform process.
When it comes to the fight against terrorism, it was emphasized that there is a BiH Strategy for the prevention and fight against terrorism for the period from 2021 to 2026, the content of which is an expression of the commitment of institutions at all levels of government in BiH in the prevention and fight against terrorism and violent extremism and radicalization leading to terrorism.
“During the meeting, members of the Joint Commission expressed their gratitude to Gregorian for a very well done job in the process of defense reform in the period from 2004 to 2005,” the Parliament announced.
Gregorian emphasized that BiH is doing quality work in the fight against terrorism, both through quality legal solutions and good cooperation of police agencies, and assessed that the state of security in BiH is at a high level in this regard.
In the conversation, it was assessed that the police agencies within the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina are doing their work professionally and responsibly, that there is noticeable better coordination in their work, and that it is very important that Bosnia and Herzegovina established full cooperation with EUROPOL on June 22 by opening a new area Common contact points for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The members of the Joint Commission informed Gregorian that BiH strives to harmonize the legislation with the relevant universal instruments of the UN for the fight against terrorism, the legal acquis of the EU, the instruments of the Council of Europe, the obligations arising from membership in the OSCE, and with the key documents of these organizations in the field of the fight against of terrorism, BHRT reports.
