Growth in the Number of Tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, 855,727 tourist visits were recorded in the six months of 2025, which represents a growth of 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

In that period, domestic tourists achieved 261,168 arrivals, which is a drop of 1.4 percent, while foreign tourists recorded 594,559 arrivals, i.e. 4.7 percent more than in the first six months of 2024. A total of 1,785,535 overnight stays were realized, which is an increase of 3.4 percent compared to last year. Domestic guests had 546,324 overnight stays (a growth of 1.4 percent), and foreign guests had 1,239,211 overnight stays (a growth of 4.3 percent).

Among foreign guests, in the period January – June this year, the most overnight stays were recorded by tourists from: Croatia (17.9 percent), Serbia (12.8 percent), Turkey (9.8 percent), Slovenia (6.7 percent), China (4.3 percent), Germany (4.1 percent) and the United States (3.2 percent), and together they account for 58.8 percent of the total number of foreign overnight stays.

In terms of average length of stay, tourists from Egypt and Ireland lead with an average of 3.7 nights, followed by Qatar and Iceland with 3.5 each, Kuwait with 3.4, France and the United Arab Emirates with 3.1 nights each.

The data show that the largest number of overnight stays was recorded in hotels and similar accommodation – as much as 94 percent of the total, while resorts and similar facilities for short breaks account for 2.8 percent, campsites with 0.7 percent, and other accommodation with 2.4 percent.

When it comes to trends in individual markets, significant growth in overnight stays was recorded by tourists from China (41.2 percent), Sweden (55 percent), Iceland (170 percent), Israel (68.6 percent), Norway (41.6 percent), and Latvia (130.8 percent).

On the other hand, a decrease was recorded from Saudi Arabia (–43 percent), South Korea (–38 percent), Brazil (–12 percent), and Iran (–64.3 percent), according to data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The average stay of tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina was 2.1 nights, with domestic and foreign guests having the same average stay. This data refers to commercial accommodation capacities, and was collected through regular monthly research by the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on records from guest books and accommodation applications.
