The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas says it stands by its demands and will only agree to a deal to end the war in Gaza if it includes a permanent ceasefire.

In addition, the Israeli army would have to completely withdraw from the Gaza Strip, the representative of the Islamist organization pointed out at the press conference held in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut. If the Israeli side does not agree with these points, the agreement cannot be implemented.

Hamas is waiting for a response from the Israelis. Hamas representatives have made similar demands several times in the past.

On Friday, US President Joe Biden unexpectedly unveiled details of a draft agreement to end the war in three phases, starting with a full and uninterrupted six-week ceasefire.

During that period, a certain group of hostages would be released, and in turn, the Palestinians imprisoned in Israel would be released. In the next phase, the fighting should be permanently stopped, and the remaining hostages would be released.

In the final phase, according to the proposed plan, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip should begin.

Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel traveled to Qatar on Wednesday for mediation talks.

According to Egyptian information, he is expected to meet with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and the head of the US foreign intelligence service of the CIA, William Burns.

Qatar, the US and Egypt have been indirectly mediating between Israel and Hamas for months in an effort to reach an agreement on a ceasefire and a hostage exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
