Last weekend, during which was held the Academy and farewell of 371st generation of Karadjoz-Bey Medrasa in Mostar, was solemn and joyous for 40 graduates and graduates of this educational institution.
But this event will specially remain in the memories of graduates Hasan Cehajic from Brcko and Dzeneta Ahmetspahic from Luxembourg, who got engaged after a 4-year relationship in front of their colleagues and professors the day before the farewell ceremony.
Dzeneta will especially remembered this joyful moment since she did not know that he will ask her that fateful question before Hasan stepped in front of her.
Hasan, who was under strong emotions, told us how he decided to surprise his girlfriend. Photo of their engagement went viral on the social networks and gathered thousands of likes.
“My mom and I should go to ask for her hand after the graduation and I bought a ring, but I wanted Dzeneta to remember that she was proposed in the beautiful way and I decided to surprise her and propose on Saturday at the Old Bridge during the walk of graduates. We all got ready and we were supposed to depart in front of Medresa, but it started to rain. I relied on the Lord and said, “If it does not happen on the Bridge, it will happen somewhere else” said Hasan.
Some of his colleagues knew what he is up to, but Dzeneta had no idea.
“I told my colleague that I will do it in a few minutes. Colleagues and professors entered the hall of our boarding school all lined up all nicely dressed and tidy. One colleague started reciting Tekbir, and then he said that I have something to say,” said Hasan, noting that he prepared a text especially for this occasion.
“I started talking, my emotions got all mixed up, and I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. But I restrained myself and told her: “I found myself in your eyes,” and then I kneeled and asked her if she would marry me. This was followed by thunderous applause. Everybody was happy, and she could not believe it. She started crying, stepped a few steps back, and then returned and said yes,” said Hasan, adding that he did not have a single doubt in her love, neither in positive response.
Hasan and Dzeneta met in Mostar, they became best friends and then fell in love. Hasan said that Dzeneta is different from all other girls he met and that attracted him the most.
“My father died on my first year and she was always there for me. She had more courage and told me that she thinks that she is falling in love with her best friend. God willing, we are planning our wedding by the end of the year,” said Hasan.
