Hemon_knjigaThe British broadcaster BBC announced a list of the 10 best books in the world for 2013. Among the titles of the world’s authors is Aleksandar Hemon, who was born and raised in Sarajevo and lives in the US now. Hemon’s memoir is in third place, right behind Ngoza Adichie and Charles Graeber.

Hemon characterized the book as true stories or personal essays that emerged over the past 13 years.

Through the memoir, this writer tries to restore the fragile memories of Sarajevo and themes from the Bosnian past and connect them with the American present. In these true stories of his new book, Hemon deals with his own experiences and the experiences of people who are near and dear to him.

‘Book of my Lives’ has so far been published in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Bosnian languages, and it expected to be published soon in Italian, Slovenian and Croatian.

Aleksandar Hemon is a writer and columnist from B&H. He was born in Sarajevo in 1964, where he grew up and became involved in literature at the Faculty of Philosophy. After he received a scholarship in 1992 to go to Chicago, he began to develop his literary career.
