heroA 22 year-old student from Trebinje Stefan Milic rescued fellow citizens, who tried to commit suicide in Trebisnjica River.

While he was walking with his girlfriend in the afternoon hours in front of the administration building of Hydroelectric Power Plant Trebisnjica on promenade between the two bridges, Milic saw woman in the water, who was disappearing and reappearing on the surface.

“What I will never forget and which encouraged me to run into the water was the moment when we made eye contact,” said Milic.

He said that the only thing he cared about was not to be late.

“I swam to the woman, grabbed her with one hand and dragged to the shore while swimming with my other hand. I pulled her out of the water, turned on the other side and pounded on her back until she threw out all the water. That’s all I knew at that point,” said Milic.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend called emergency medical care and they took care of the woman.

Stefan says that after a few days and talk with his father he realized that he could got hurt because he did not know the rules of dealing with drowning person, but that he would always do the same in similar situation.

Stefan Milic is practicing judo for 17 years and has a black belt.
