High Representative: “I will not allow the Disunion of this Country”

“I have all the instruments at my disposal to ensure the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, I never announce my moves, but I will not allow any kind of disunification of this country,” said Christian Svhmidt, the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in an interview for BHRT.

We are talking about the document on which the authorities in the Republika Srpska are working under the name “Agreement on regulating relations between the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with the Dayton Agreement and international acts”.

“This is a serious violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and if it were to go ahead, I don’t see that the FBIH intends to work on this in any way,” he said.

“This is not about the FBiH, it is about the state and that is what is defined by the Dayton Agreement. If there are no reactions, people would lose confidence in the peace agreement. I heard that it is still not clear in the Republika Srpska and the NSRS what actually This is what they want to do. If they are asking for my recommendation, it is to not go for any disunity, separation or the like. That would mean new borders, moving the population to new places, and that would cause a new conflict,” emphasized Schmidt.

Perhaps it is better to return to topics such as European integration and topics that belong to the 19th century, he said.

After the communiqué of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) two weeks ago, you saw that the International Community is ready to react, and I am glad that the PIC emphasized that I have all the instruments at my disposal and that I have all the instruments. I will not allow the disunification of this country and that is my mandate, said the high representative for BHRT.

“I don’t have any new data, but based on what I have, I know that in all polls, and among all citizens, there is no difference in opinion, they want to live in peace and prosperity in this country and region.”

He emphasized that we have a unique opportunity in BIH to turn to the EU path.

“If I see that we have blockages in the functionality of the country, I and the International Community can only react in favor of the citizens. I am here to remind the political elites that they must act and be responsible for what is happening.”
