At Wilson’s Promenade, the beginning of the construction of the Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art, one of the most significant cultural projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), was officially marked. This long-awaited event marks the realization of a vision that has lasted for more than three decades.
On this occasion, the site of the future museum was visited by representatives of UNESCO, together with the management of the Ars Aevi Museum, the Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo (CS)Nihad Uk, the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo Samir Avdic, the Head of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo Benjamina Karic, and the Director of the Construction Institute of CS Belma Barlov.
The construction of the Museum, which will be located in the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, is financed by non-refundable funds of the European Union (EU) in the amount of 4.1 million euros (about 8 million BAM) through the EU4Culture project, within the #TeamEurope initiative. The realization of the project implies close cooperation of the EU, Italy, France, CS, and the City of Sarajevo.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister of CS Nihad Uk emphasized the importance of the project for the city and the region and thanked all partners: “I extend special gratitude to all partners who believed in this dream, and above all to architect Emanuela Baglietto and her team from the Renzo Piano studio for their irreplaceable dedication. I thank the Delegation of the European Union in BiH and international partners for their key support, and indispensably Enver Hadziomerspahic, whose vision is the foundation of everything we are achieving today.“
The Ars Aevi Museum will be home to one of the most valuable regional collections of contemporary art, and the project was designed in the renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop studio.
