Holiday Spirit: The Easter Egg in front of the Sarajevo Cathedral

On the occasion of the biggest Catholic holiday, Easter, a decorated Easter egg was placed in front of Sarajevo’s Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) artist, Benjamin Cengic, was in charge of this installation and its painting, and the association Obojena klapa, which through its work “introduces color” into the everyday life of the inhabitants of Sarajevo.

The Easter egg in front of the Cathedral took on its final look, and then it was lit up, thus completely providing the holiday spirit to this part of Sarajevo.

Good Friday, the day of Holy Week, is a day that commemorates Jesus’ severe and violent condemnation, pain, and death as described in the canonical gospels. It is the fifth day of Holy Week preceded by Holy Thursday and followed by Holy Saturday. On Sunday, Catholics celebrate the biggest Christian holiday, Easter.

This is the only day when it is forbidden to celebrate the holy mysteries of the Mass. Namely, the Holy Mass is the bloodless sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and on that day Jesus Christ himself was sacrificed on the altar of the cross and offered himself to the Father as a blood sacrifice. Therefore, the Catholic Church does not celebrate the Mass Sacrifice on that day, Klix.ba reports.
