George Clooney, Julia Roberts and many other Hollywood stars raised $28 million at a fundraiser for President Joseph Biden’s campaign, which is more money from a single event than for any Democratic candidate in history.
A fundraiser dinner was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Late night host Jimmy Kimmel interviewed Biden and former President Barack Obama, who stressed the need to defeat former President Donald Trump in what is expected to be an extremely close race.
During the more than half-hour conversation, Kimmel asked if the country was suffering from amnesia about the potential Republican nominee, to which Biden replied, “All we have to do is remember what it was like,” referring to the period in which Trump was in the White House.
Trump spent Saturday on the campaign trail in Detroit and criticized Biden’s economic policies. The president was raising funds “with elitist Hollywood celebrities who were out of touch with the common people,” Trump campaign spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt said.
But Biden told an audience in California that during his tenure “every major piece of legislation that was planned has been passed.” And Obama expressed admiration for the comprehensive legislation on health care, public works, the environment, new technologies, gun safety and other major initiatives implemented by the current administration, Beta writes.
