Two families whose houses are located ten meters from the works on the Corridor Vc highway have been waking up and going to bed every day and night for months with the sounds of trucks, excavators, and other heavy machinery.
The construction site is located in the village of Tesanjka, next to the main road Doboj – Teslic, in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). About 2.500 people live there.
“These two houses are very close to the highway. The construction work is being carried out during the night as well, around 10,11 p.m. Welding, grinding… The containers are placed near the fence. It is about five to six meters from the front door of one house,” says Enver Begovic, one of the locals.
The owners feel that they can no longer live in the houses and are asking for their houses to be bought, like the others on this route of the highway.
What does the Motorways of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) say?
The Motorways of the FBiH believe that “the parcels of land are not in the expropriation zone”.
As they state, at this moment “they cannot work in the regular procedure nor can the expropriation of the said properties be carried out”.
Appeal to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
The section of the road that is being built next to two family houses is financed for the most part from a loan from the EBRD.
This is the reason why the locals turned to this financial institution.
“The Motorways of the FBiH refused to communicate with us until we approached the EBRD. Their team for social issues from London was on the ground and established the factual situation. The Motorways of the FBiH were given an order to deal with this issue. That’s how a consulting company from Serbia was hired,” says the legal representative of the locals, Mustafa Alic.
The dissatisfaction of the owners of disputed houses between which the highway passes did not slow down the construction work, Radio Slobodna Evropa reports.
