How many illiterate People there is in BiH?

According to the Agency for Statistics of BiH and the census from 2013, a total of 2.82 % of the total population in BiH is illiterate, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH.

On the other side, there are millions of unemployed people with formal education who are unable to find a job because of the lack of basic skills that are requested in the labour market.

The survey on labour force that was conducted this year showed that the unemployment rate was 18.4 %, and it is the highest among young people from 15 to 24 years of age (38.8 %).

On the occasion of marking September 8 – the International Day of Literacy, from the Ministry stated that the data show the importance of education and training for adults in BiH as well as the establishment of education and training systems that would provide the development of educated, highly qualified, mobile and competitive labour force.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH invited all institutions, organizations and initiatives to provide their contribution to the promotion of literacy of BH population of all ages.

The International Day of Literacy is marked with the aim of promoting the significance of learning and literacy and it also reminds on the fact that around 781 million people around the world are illiterate and two thirds of the illiterate population are women and girls.

Elementary education is still a luxury in many parts of the world.
