HR Schmidt sends a Diplomatic Note to the Embassy of Croatia in BiH

The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, sent a diplomatic note to the Croatian Embassy in Sarajevo yesterday over statements by President Zoran Milanovic.
Milanovic has repeatedly said that Schmidt was illegally elected to the post of High Representative because he was not confirmed by the United Nations Security Council.

According to Jutarnji list, Schmidt refers to Milanovic’s statements in a protest note and reminds that Croatia is a signatory to the Dayton Agreement and Annex 10, ie the Agreement on Civilian Implementation of the Peace Settlement, which also defines the position of the High Representative.

“The Office of the High Representative, in this context, kindly asks the Croatian authorities to refrain from making unfounded accusations about the appointment and status of the High Representative,” Schmidt wrote in a protest note to the Croatian Embassy in BiH.

We remind you that Milanovic has said several times in the last month that Schmidt was illegally elected, and called on him to use the Bonn powers and change the election law in BiH.

It should be reminded that Russia opposed the election of Schmidt as a permanent member of the Security Council, so the Peace Implementation Council, ie its Steering Board, was not unanimously appointed. On the other hand, the international community says that it did not even need a UN Security Council resolution, and that its predecessor was not elected in that way, Klix.ba writes.
