Hundreds of corpses accumulated in the courtyard of the Shifa hospital, which was surrounded by Israeli forces, and this is an announcement of an epidemic and a real disaster, warned the deputy Palestinian minister of health in the Gaza Strip, Yusuf Abu al-Rish.
“Israeli forces are targeting the courtyard of Shifa Hospital, where hundreds of corpses are piled up, the situation here heralds an epidemic and a real disaster,” Al-Rish said in a statement to Anadolu agency.
Pointing to the extent of the humanitarian situation at the hospital, Abu al-Rish added: “The situation in the Shifa Medical Complex, the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, is very dangerous. People are forced to leave the hospital even though they are injured, we have repeatedly demanded that the safety of our patients while being evacuated from the hospital.”
Al-Rish pointed out that due to Israel’s constant attacks on the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of Health can no longer count the dead and injured.
Abu al-Rish, who holds “the Israeli administration, the international community and international institutions” responsible for the siege of the hospital by the Israeli army, called on the world to provide fuel to Shifa Hospital as soon as possible to save the hospital’s patients.
Gaza Hospitals Director General Mohammed Zakut said there is no safe place to evacuate patients, infants and the injured at Shifa Hospital, which has been under Israeli siege for three days.
Last week, Israel bombed a building on the Shifa Hospital campus and its surroundings, claiming that “Hamas had established a military base under the hospital”, and the attack caused loss of life and many wounded.
According to a statement from the Gaza government, 22 of Gaza’s 35 hospitals have become inoperable due to Israeli attacks that have continued since October 7 or due to lack of fuel.
