Today, an office of the Hungarian Ministry of Interior’s Counter-Terrorism Center was inaugurated at the Military Training Center of the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska (MUP RS) in Zalužani near Banja Luka.

The opening ceremony was attended by Republika Srpska’s Minister of Interior Željko Budimir and the Chief of the Hungarian Counter-Terrorism Center, János Hajdu.

According to Budimir, “the purpose of opening this office is to facilitate cooperation in information exchange and training, which should contribute to the fight against terrorism.”

“The only way to combat terrorism is through information sharing, which is crucial not only for prevention but also when the deployment of specialized anti-terrorism units is required,” Budimir told RTRS.

The establishment of this center is part of a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening police cooperation between the MUP RS and the Hungarian Ministry of Interior’s Counter-Terrorism Center.

János Hajdu, Chief of Hungary’s TEK unit, stated that terrorism represents the extreme endpoint of radicalization.

“In order for law enforcement authorities, particularly counter-terrorism services, to adequately respond to the challenges posed by terrorism, simple cooperation is not enough. It is essential to exchange different approaches and experiences, learn from each other’s areas of expertise, and address professional issues of mutual interest,” Hajdu told RTRS, Klix.ba writes.
