IbrahimMaalouf2011_2cDenisRouvre_KleinAfter it was announced from Jazz Fest at the beginning of the week that this year’s festival in November will be opened by Gregory Porter, currently the most sought after jazz singer in the world, it was announced yesterday that the festival will be closed by another big name-trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf.

He was born in Beirut and raised in the suburbs of Paris. Maalouf has been on the stage since he was nine years old. He would share the stage with his father, who was also a trumpeter. During his studies, in only four years he won 15 international awards, which he continues to line up today. This year, he won the French Grammy, which is hte French national music award Les Victoires de la Musique in the category for best world music album released last year. He received an award for his fifth CD Illussions that will be presented on 9 November in Sarajevo at the closing of the 18th Jazz Fest.

Maalouf has gained an international reputation thanks to the excellent albums and performances, and he became known to the wider public after cooperation with Sting. For the third year in a row, his album is a best-seller in France and his warm sound of the trumpet brings interesting combintations of various styles and traditions and seems to have no boundaries when the interest of the public is in question.
