Representatives of all Palestinian factions are staying in Moscow, where they are trying to reconcile their differences and provide a unified response to the war between Israel and Hamas in a conversation with the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov. In this context, China’s attitude towards the Palestinian issue is very important. On this occasion, journalist of Federalna TV Damira Ibranović contacted Svijet magazine from Beijing.
She points out that the Chinese media objectively reports on the situation on the ground in the Gaza Strip.
“In addition to reporting on the terrible suffering of Palestinians, there are also a number of thematic articles when we talk about that suffering – the suffering of children, women, even journalists, then the horrors when it comes to the humanitarian situation,” explained the special correspondent of FTV from Beijing.
There are also a number of articles that are openly accusing the West, which, says Ibranović, is to some extent expected. On the other hand, she stated, Russia is not mentioned much as a peace factor.
“Russia doesn’t have much in the whole story. More hope is placed in the Arab countries, which they expect to take action. The Chinese media reports on Gaza in a similar way to the media that we have access to in the Balkans, i.e. in the West,” added Ibranović.
China has already shown its influence in the Middle East, especially by reconciling bitter rivals – Saudi Arabia and Iran. Asked if China will proactively get involved in stopping the war and solving the Palestinian issue, Ibranović says – I think it will.
According to her, it seems that the time has come for China to get involved in all this and that the government has definitely realized that.
“I say this based on several concrete moves recently at the United Nations. First there was the harsh reaction of Chinese representatives to the US veto of the resolution proposed by Algeria on the ceasefire. In addition, the Chinese delegation recently clearly called out Israel and said that Israel must fulfill its international obligations, to allow humanitarian corridors to the Gaza Strip, but also to fulfill the demands of the International Court of Justice on preventing genocide. China sees its own interest in all of this,” she said.
Ibranović explains that it is in China’s interest to stop the war in Gaza, since that region is on the route of the Belt and Road initiative, which is the most important economic and strategic project of this country when it comes to their influence on the global level, Federalna writes.
