The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, met on Wednesday in Sarajevo with the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov.

During the meeting, the interlocutors agreed that the bilateral relations between the two countries are good and without any open issues, which represents a good basis for further strengthening of cooperation both bilaterally and internationally.

Krišto informed the minister about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the concrete steps taken by the BiH Council of Ministers when it comes to implementing the necessary reform processes on BiH’s path to membership in the European Union.

She also informed Minister Jabbarov about the planned activities of the economic development of BiH, pointing out that the experience of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, can be highly beneficial for our country.

“In this context, the potential in the field of strengthening economic cooperation was particularly emphasized, which is an opportunity for an even greater presence of Azerbaijani investments,” Krišto pointed out.

Jabbarov emphasized that Azerbaijan values good political relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed interest in improving economic relations by identifying and implementing projects of mutual interest.

Krišto once again thanked Minister Jabbarov for all the assistance that the Republic of Azerbaijan has provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fadil Novalić, and the  Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry, Nermin Džindić, met with the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov, at the seat of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Azerbaijani minister led the delegation of his country at a meeting on the improvement of economic cooperation and investment opportunities, with special reference to the fields of communications, industry and energy in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The two sides expressed interest in investments in road construction, renewable energy sources, gas supply, the pharmaceutical industry, as well as cooperation in other industry sectors.

Prime Minister Novalić pointed out that precisely in these areas the Federation of BiH has great development potential and is open to new investments that will bring benefits to the citizens.

“We already have positive experiences with Azerbaijan. Your company in the Federation of BiH participates in the construction of certain sections of the motorway. Our priority now is the construction of expressways that will connect the entire Federation of BiH, where there is the possibility of companies participating in tenders for their construction, especially the more complex sections,” Prime Minister Novalić said.

Minister Jabbarov, whose delegation includes, among others, representatives of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), which is an investor in the field of energy, expressed his desire that the meetings he will have in Bosnia and Herzegovina would result in comprehensive cooperation.

“We are also focused on green energy projects and the use of solar and wind sources. We would be very happy to join all your projects, as well as those in the field of road construction. I also want to express great interest in your pharmaceutical industry because Azerbaijan is an importer of 99 percent of pharmaceutical products,” said Jabbarov.

During the conversation, information was exchanged about specific projects in which there is an opportunity for investments by Azerbaijan, such as those within the implementation of the energy transition, that is, the strengthening of energy production from renewable sources. The plans of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to increase the energy transport network, as well as gas transport, were also highlighted.

The meeting in the FBiH Government was held on the eve of tomorrow’s official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with a delegation of his country.
