In Federation of BiH, Glucometers are in use that could be fatal for Children

Glucometers are currently in use in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), which could be extremely harmful for children suffering from diabetes. Instead of ordering an independent check of the devices in question, institutions shift responsibility for their use from one to another.

These are glucometers whose measurements do not match, neither with the sensor that the child wears, nor with other glucometers, and the disputed devices have been distributed in Canton Sarajevo (CS) since last year, when the FBiH Institute of Public Health signed a contract with the company “Bauerfeind”.

45 shows the deviation

Of the 62 distributed devices in Sarajevo, as many as 45 show a deviation.

The Cantonal Association of Diabetes Patients believes that the Chinese glucometers “Medisign GH82” should not have been purchased because they are not in the Medavala database – the international register of devices and a database for devices for measuring blood pressure, blood glucose and pulse, etc.

Due to inaccurate measurement and if not reacted in time, these glucometers can cause hypoglycemic coma in patients and then death.

The parents turned to the authorities

Parents of children suffering from diabetes, who shared their experiences with Al Jazeera and who were given the disputed devices, contacted health centers, but they referred them to the address of the Health Insurance Institute of CS, while they referred to the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of BiH.

The official instructions state that the devices can be tested with the original fluid, but it did not come with the allocated devices because the device is not registered, Avaz reports.
