Mensur’s remains were found under the fountain of the doctor Nebojsa Mraovic from Brcko last year. He is one of the approximately 8,000 Bosniaks killed in the 1995 genocide committed by the Republika Srpska (RS) Army.

His and Salko Hadzic‘s remains were buried 11 years ago, after which Mraovic built a concrete fountain above them.

Mensur’s and Salko‘s skeletal remains were found in a mass grave near Cerska.

The incomplete skeletal remains of Salko Hadzic were buried in 2022, and those of Nukic in 2011, in the Potocari Memorial Center. Those found in Brcko will be added after the collective burial in the Potocari Memorial Center on July 11th of this year.

Who was Mensur Nukic?

Mensur Nukic was born in 1975 near Cerska. When the Army of RS launched an attack on that village in 1993, about 6,000 inhabitants fled to Srebrenica.

Twenty-year-old Mensur was also on that road. He was last seenby his neighbor from Cerska, Lutvo Ahmetovic.

“He was a very capable guy. The group broke up – someone was killed, someone was captured. After seven days of wandering around the Udrc mountain and constant ambushes, only the seven of us were within reach of free territory. I was wounded. I don’t know what happened to Mensur,“ says Lutvo, who today lives in Cerska, where he returned 20 years ago.

Who was Salko Hadzic?

Salko Hadzic was 27 years old when he was killed in the genocide. His family’s house is located in Nova Kasaba. It has not been restored and is in a dilapidated state.

Enver Jakubovic returned to Nova Kasaba twenty years ago. There he opened an inn.

“I grew up with Salko, we were friends, he was a good guy, friend, and I regret everything that happened to him, that he ended up like that. Common sense cannot understand what happened after so many years. All of us here were shocked when we heard what happened to the rest of their remains. It’s unbelievable what that doctor from Brcko did,” he noted.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) statedon February 19th that this judicial institution is still working on the investigation related to the entire case, and that they do not yet have new information.

According to the Criminal Code of the Brcko District, if someone takes away, hides or moves a body or part of a body without authorization, he will be fined or imprisoned for up to one year, Slobodna Evropa reports.
