Incomplete remains of at least one victim of the last war were exhumed today at the Kamenicko brdo site, in the area called Popova njiva.
“The remains were found on the ground, and according to the information available to the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is presumed that they belong to the victim of Bosniak nationality who was killed in the genocide in Srebrenica in 1995,” the institute said.
After the clearing of the terrain, the remains were transferred to the Commemorative Center in Tuzla, where their forensic medical and forensic technical processing will be performed.
“Bone samples will also be excluded to identify the victim using the DNA method,” the statement added.
The exhumation was managed by the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, and was carried out by order of the Court of BiH.
So far, 6,652 victims of the genocide have been buried in the Potocari Memorial Center, while another 237 victims of genocide have been buried in other locations, according to the wishes of the victims’ families. About 1,000 people are still missing.
