The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo, Admir Katica, is sure that now is the right time to resolve the issue of the new building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo, and says that he is fully committed to that goal.
“We entered this story ambitiously, aware of the objective obstacles that lie before us. It is important to emphasize that this problem was never treated before the change in the government structure in 2018, and then activities on this matter were postponed with the change of government in 2020 and then due to the corona virus pandemic. I am sure that now is the right momentum to solve this issue and I am fully committed to the goal, the new MIA facility in Sarajevo Canton,” said Katica for Fena.
The public often mentions the building in Kolodvorska Street as an official solution.
“What is true is that the building and the plot were in circulation as the most favorable solution, and we worked on solving administrative problems and property-legal relations. That location was never the final decision, but it is certainly one of the most interesting options. Today, when our working groups, in cooperation with the Construction Institute of Sarajevo Canton, are actively working on finding an adequate location, we can emphasize that it is of priority importance for us that it be in the municipality of Novo Sarajevo due to its geostrategic position and access roads,” said Katica.
It is planned that the newly built building will house the headquarters of the MIA, the Novo Sarajevo Police Department and the Traffic Unit.
“We plan to connect all of this with a modern operational center that will be worthy of our police both in appearance and functionality. With the construction of the new building, according to the needs, we plan to have over 12,000 square meters, more than 200 parking spaces and the possibility of working in the new building for about 880 employees. Big projects require a lot of sacrifice and patience, but we finally got it. Our efforts have paid off and I believe that at the end of this mandate, if it is not built, then it will certainly be in an advanced stage a new facility of the Ministry of Interior of the CS,” says Katica.
Although a priority, this facility is not the only one the ministry is working on.
“It is in our interest to regulate the issues of other facilities of police administrations as well. In the budget, we provided enough funds for capital projects, so that by the end of this year we will have a clear picture of capital investments for this mandate. What I must emphasize is my uncompromising determination and request to increase the percentage of budget execution in the Police Directorate, especially in the area of procurement of special military and police equipment. We secured over 20 million BAM for capital projects of the Police Administration. I am convinced that in the coming period we will show everyone how strong and capable the police are,” concluded Katica in an interview with Fena.
