Inzko: Political leaders must change course

Inzko stressed the need to quickly form governments at all levels, inviting elected officials to establish a concrete reform plan and agree on formation of governments to enable steps on many issues to be taken.

He stressed that the international community should continue to offer support to positive political initiatives and be firm in its efforts to prevent contestation of the Peace Accord or attempts to undermine BiH in order for reform efforts to succeed, the OHR said in a statement.

“It is time for political leaders to show a strong sense of reality, constructive compromise and political will. The international community is prepared to offer support, but the essential decision to move forward must come from BiH, or from the demands of citizens and profound gestures of elected leaders,” Inzko said.

According to Inzko, political leaders must start to put the interests of citizens in first place, by respecting and implementing the Peace Accord and fulfilling conditions for membership in the EU and NATO.

The High Representative was in Warsaw two days ago, where he met with Grzegorz Schetyna, Poland’s foreign minister. In the past several days, Inzko was in Washington, where he spoke with senior officials at the State Department and members of the U.S. Congress.
