Iranian President: The Sanctity of Human Dignity must be upheld – in Srebrenica, Gaza, and all Parts of the World

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, sent a letter to the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, in which he pointed out that the genocide in Srebrenica was a failure of the international community to protect helpless refugees and a shameful stain on the history of diplomacy.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is proud that, since the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it has always been honestly and courageously with the people of this country, and our continuous commitment to the martyrs of Srebrenica and their survivors was also manifested in the positive voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly declaring July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica,” said Pezeshkian.

He pointed out that the genocide in Srebrenica was a failure of the international community to protect helpless refugees and a shameful stain on the history of diplomacy.

“It reminds us that commitment to human principles and values requires strong, urgent and justice-oriented action, not empty slogans, neutrality or complicity with evil. Unfortunately, today, the painful scenes of the Srebrenica genocide, on a much larger scale, are reappearing before the eyes of humanity in the Palestinian territories and Gaza. The unprecedented number of Palestinian civilian martyrs, especially children and women, and the extensive destruction of vital infrastructure is a deeply alarming humanitarian catastrophe and, like Srebrenica, we continue to witness the silence, inaction and even complicity of many advocates of human rights and human values in these crimes and a new genocide. Srebrenica, Gaza and other crisis hotspots around the world are the crystallization of a chain of human suffering that occurred in the shadow of a lack of global political will,” Pezeshkian emphasized.

He said that the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica is not only a ceremony, it is also an opportunity to remember lessons and lessons.

“It is an association with teachings that, if they had been taken into account, today would not have witnessed the repetition of that genocide on a much larger scale in Gaza. The foreign policy strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Balkans is the preservation of peace, security and stability in this sensitive, important and geopolitical region, and our attitude especially towards the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is based on respect for all its peoples and support for territorial integrity, national sovereignty, independence and the peaceful and sincere coexistence of all people in this rich and beautiful country.

In the end, I want that thirty years after Srebrenica, the memory of the victims of this tragic event lives on, not only in tears and hearts, but also in brave actions to build a more just and peaceful world, a world in which the dignity of every human being is considered sacred, in Srebrenica, in Gaza and in every corner of this planet,” said the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, addressed to the member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.
