Israel has approved the reopening of the Erez border crossing to the north of Gaza and the temporary use of the Ashdod port in the south of the country, following an American request to increase humanitarian deliveries to the Palestinian territory.

“At a meeting of the security administration held late last night, urgent steps were approved to increase the amount of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip. In addition to the opening of the Erez border crossing, which has been closed since it was destroyed by a Hamas attack on October 7, an increase in Jordanian aid through the crossing was approved Kerem Shalom,” the Israeli administration announced.

US President Joseph Biden last night in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded “certain and concrete measures” to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Israel is facing increasing pressure after seven aid workers were killed in an Israeli airstrike, sparking outrage over the ongoing crisis over the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
