Israel shelled the Gaza Strip from the air, sea and land on Monday as the war in the Palestinian territory showed no signs of abating and Hamas said it was withdrawing from truce talks.

Shells fell on Tal Al-Hawa, Sheikh Ajlin and Al-Sabra neighborhoods in Gaza City, AFP correspondents reported, while eyewitnesses said the Israeli army shelled the Al-Mughraq area and the northern suburbs of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses reported Israeli fire east of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza, and shelling and Apache helicopter attacks on western areas of the southernmost town of Rafah.

Israel’s military said in a statement that it was continuing its activities throughout the coastal area, and said it had carried out strikes in Rafah and central Gaza that killed “a number” of militants, as well as airstrikes across the Strip yesterday.

They also said their naval forces fired on targets in Gaza.
