British Prime Minister Keir Starmer today stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties with both the United States and Europe, and that choosing sides between these two key allies would be completely frivolous, which is why he called for working together to preserve peace and stability.

Starmer said that members of parliament are facing the “test of our time”.

He stressed that the situation facing Britain shows how national and economic security are closely linked.

Starmer said that the deal he announced last night symbolizes a new era – allowing Ukraine to use 1.6 billion pounds to buy missiles to be manufactured in Belfast. According to him, this will put Ukraine in the strongest possible position, while at the same time supporting British jobs.

He also referred to the Oval Office meeting between President Trump and President Zelensky, calling it “something that no one in this house wants to see”.

“I want to be absolutely clear – we must strengthen our relationship with the United States of America, for our security, for our technology, for our trade and investment. They are, and always will be, irreplaceable, and we will never choose between either side of the Atlantic,” Starmer said, The Guardian reports.

He said that if the past week has shown anything, it’s that the idea of picking sides is completely frivolous, because while some may enjoy the simplicity of taking sides, this week has made it clear that the role of the U.S. is critical to ensuring the peace we all want to see in Ukraine.
