Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani stated that Israel targeted civilians in Gaza, but that it was not genocide.

Tajani was a guest on the show on the Italian radio “Rai”, and when the journalists were reminded that the first hearing was held today in the lawsuit of the Republic of South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for “accusations of ethnic cleansing and genocide”, Tajani said:

“Genocide is something else. Here is an attack in which civilians are shot. We have said in every way that we do not accept attacks on civilians.”

Emphasizing that they must not forget October 7, Tajani said:

“We continue to urge Israel not to exceed limits while ‘reacting’.”
