The Italian police broke up a criminal ring in Naples that imported cocaine into Europe, the police announced today.

29 people were arrested, and the police stated that the suspects were importing cocaine into Italy from Spain and the Netherlands.

Cocaine, on the other hand, arrived in Europe in containers or bags that were transported on ships and even in submarines from Panama.

“It’s 100 percent safe underwater, but that only comes from Panama,” the suspect told another suspect in the wiretapped conversation, police said.

According to previous investigations, cocaine usually arrives in Europe on ships carrying goods from South America, hidden in containers carrying bananas or other goods.

In other cases, police seized drugs carried in bags on planes or cars.

Authorities said they seized more than 100 kilograms of cocaine and vehicles with sophisticated concealment systems where the cocaine was allegedly stored while being smuggled from one European city to another.

They also seized weapons and ammunition as part of the operation that took place in the early hours of today.

Italian and Albanian nationals were arrested, the police said, adding that an alleged criminal who was on the run in Dubai was also arrested as part of the investigation.
