This weekend, Jajce will host the 15th National Championship in kayaking and canoeing on still waters “Jajce 2016”. The participation of more than 200 competitors is expected and the competition will be held in men’s and women’s competition in all categories, from the youngest cadets to seniors, as announced from the Municipality of Jajce.
The Championship will be held on two competition days, Saturday the 20th of August and Sunday the 21st of August. Opening ceremony of the Championship will be held today, on Friday, the 19th of August, on Veliko Plivsko Lake at 7:00 pm.
“The part of Albano trail was set as well and Jajce welcomed this year’s National Championship as a city of importance for water sports with the aim of becoming a kayak and canoe center. It is the result of good sports results that the Kayak and Canoe Club Jajce recorded in 2015, as well as good hosting and organization of the 14th National Championship in kayaking and canoeing on still waters that was held in Jajce last year,” as said in the statement.
According to the Director of the Kayak and Canoe Club Jajce Mirza Varenikic, Pliva lakes represent an attraction for canoeing and kayaking, as the water of Pliva lakes is considered as “difficult”. The 7th European and World Championship was held on these waters in 1963, which hosted over 500 competitors from 22 countries that is considered as the largest number of participants until then.
General sponsors of the Championships is the Municipality of Jajce, and the hosts are the Kayak Canoe and Rafting Federation of BiH and the Kayak and Canoe Club Jajce.
