Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have signed divorce papers, Daily Mail reports. As the couple’s friends confirmed for this media, they are waiting for a moment to officially submit them and announce the news of the separation.
Friends of the couple told the Daily Mail that the 51-year-old actor and 55-year-old singer plan to divorce after a last-ditch attempt at reconciliation in recent weeks fell through.
The couple’s divorce papers are “finalized but not yet filed,” according to multiple sources.
The news followed Affleck’s purchase of a new $20.5 million home in Pacific Palisades on Lopez’s birthday. Her friends claimed that Affleck’s sudden purchase of the house was like a “knife to the heart”.
This came days after the couple put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale for $68 million. July 24 also marked the day when Lopez completed the sale of her four-room penthouse in New York for $23 million, reports People.
“They finalized the divorce papers a month ago but are waiting for the right time to file,” sources told the Daily Mail, “Then they will release a joint statement saying they share a lot of love for each other and how they fought to it works, but it didn’t. In the end, they couldn’t come to a compromise. What they had earlier was gone and they both accepted it.”
There has been speculation about their divorce for months, and the couple has only been seen together on a few occasions. Of particular note was their wedding anniversary, which neither Jennifer nor Ben looked back on, as well as his absence from her recent birthday celebration.
