The 21st International extreme diving competition called “Jump in Kazan” started in Konjic, which brought together 18 of the best divers from the region in the fight for the title of champion.
The organizer of this event, Elmir Miro Hadzialic, says that since yesterday the atmosphere in Konjic has been special because of this event and that local and foreign guests sat on the beach to watch the spectacle in that city.
“There will be 18 competitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Serbia, and Montenegro, and that is a limited number. The best divers will perform, and tomorrow they will perform at the traditional high jumps from the Old Bridge in Mostar,” said Hadzialic yesterday.
He points out that jumping into “Kazan” is specific and very dangerous because one jumps from a height of 16 meters into a “Kazan”, i.e. into a natural hole in the Neretva River bordered by rocks that is two meters deep, and the rocks are 40 centimeters away.
“The jumps are extremely dangerous and only experienced divers come because if the diver misses the hole, the consequences can be fatal, that is the specificity of these jumps in Konjic,” Hadzialic points out.
It is jumped with a “swallow” dive with a shallow entry because if it is a deep entry, as he explains, the diver can break his head. The jumps are performed in two series, so that in the first series all 18 competitors jump, and in the second series the eight best enter.
Each jump is performed under the supervision of a five-member expert jury that evaluates each jump individually, and the one with the highest number of points wins the prestigious title of the best and a rich prize.
This year, the champion title is defended by Sarajevo’s Dino Bajric, who last year won all the hearts in this competition and was one of the favorites in the traditional high jumps from the Old Bridge in Mostar.
The main sponsor of the extreme water jumps called “Jump in Kazan” is the Municipality of Konjic, which in the past few days co-organized a major beach and Neretva beautification campaign, which will undoubtedly be a positive image of this city for all local and foreign tourists, Klix.ba reports.
