Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said today that EU candidate countries have been made clear that they should not participate in the Victory Day parade in Moscow on May 9.

Kaja Kallas stressed at a press conference after a meeting of EU foreign ministers that it had been made clear that “some member states will not look favorably on participation in the parade in Moscow on May 9 due to Russia’s all-out aggression against Ukraine”.

As she announced, she will visit Belgrade and Pristina in May, stating that the dialogue on normalizing relations must continue.

“We have appointed a new representative for the dialogue and this process should continue,” Kallas stressed.

She added that “a good debate was held on Sunday and today on the Western Balkans and, if you look at the map of the region, it is clear that geographically it belongs to Europe and that it should be part of the EU”.

“The best way to lower tensions in the region is for everyone to be in the EU, because the union is a peace project and brings about a calming of tensions between countries. That is why the European integration process is important and we need progress. Albania and Montenegro are taking good steps, implementing reforms and we will have some success stories from there,” she stressed.

As she says, Bosnia and Herzegovina is in a constitutional crisis and any process of overthrowing the state is not unacceptable.

“Political leaders should bridge differences, not strengthen them. During my visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, I saw that European integration is something that everyone agrees on and we should go in that direction,” Kallas believes.
