Klitschko to Zelenski: “We can lie euphorically, but not forever”

Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko attacked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with a Swiss newspaper that attracted a lot of attention in Russia and Ukraine.

“People are asking why we didn’t prepare better for this war, why Zelenski denied until the end that this would happen,” Klitschko said in an interview on Saturday.

“There is too much information that did not correspond to reality,” said the 52-year-old former world boxing champion, accusing the Ukrainian president of “mistakes.”

He called for everyone to be honest about the real situation in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. “Zelenski is now paying for the mistakes he made,” believes Klitschko.

“Of course we can euphorically lie to our people and partners, but you can’t do it forever,” he said, giving clear support to Ukraine’s chief of staff, General Valery Zaluzhny, who fueled criticism a month ago by declaring that the war had reached a stalemate.

Klitschko believes that Zaluzhny told the truth that “sometimes people don’t want to hear”.

He spoke out against political games in Ukraine, saying that there should be no internal conflicts in a country that is fighting for survival. That is why he refused to discuss his personal plans and publicly expressed his support for Zelenski.

“Today, the president has an important function and we must support him until the end of the war, but when the war ends, every politician will have to answer for his successes and mistakes,” said Klitschko.
