Locals of a small town Schongau in Bavaria know Redzep Catic very well. This 66-year-old Bosnian, who lives in Schongau since 1972, has a special feeling when it comes to finding lost wallets.
Not only that he finds things, but he also refuses to take an award for his honesty, as reported by daily newspaper ‘Merkur’.”
“My wife asks herself how come I keep coming back home with someone else’s wallet that I found on the street or on the sidewalk. Obviously, I have a good feeling for these things,” laughs Redzep Catic, who is known by the nickname ‘Hadzija’ in Schongau.
A few days ago, Catic went to the old town of Schongau when he saw something on the road on the Semerstraße.
“It cannot be a wallet again” said the 66-year-old retiree who worked for many years in the construction business as a builder.
Hadzija was not mistaken: It really was a wallet. Again!
“I have found more than ten wallets on the road or on the sidewalks,” said this Bosnian.
When he finds a wallet, he does not touch the money but very carefully removes only the ID card to determine who is the owner. In the recent case, he found out that a resident of nearby Peiting had lost her wallet.
She put her wallet on top of the car and forgot about it. She found out that her wallet is missing in the old town of Schongau, drove back and asked for it, but had no luck finding it. She returned to Peiting disappointed. Then the phone rang.
“Did you lose something?” asked Redzep Catic. She jumped with joy.
She went to Schongau unable to believe that she will get her wallet back with all the documents. She wanted to thank with an award of 50 EUR, but Redzep Catic refused. The woman was persistent and softened the 66-year-old retiree with 20 EUR.
A month ago, Catic also found a wallet in Schongau and delivered it to the police, because the owner could not be reached by phone.
In the last 15 years, Bosnian – who is married and has three grown children – found more than a dozen wallets and returned all of them to owners. And the owners were always thankful.
“I know from my own experience how it feels to lose your wallet,” said Hadzija since he lost his wallet in a telephone booth.
The fact that he often comes across lost wallets he explained by the fact that, as a pensioner, he has a lot of time. He often walks or rides a bike.
Our Hadzija can continue finding wallets.
