At the symposium “Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Euro-Atlantic Perspective” organized by High Representative (HR) Christian Schmidt, BiH Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic told that the destabilization of BiH could pose a danger not only to the region but to the whole of Europe.
“The Euro-Atlantic perspective is a key foreign policy priority of the state of BiH. By accepting the obligations to implement 14 priorities from the European Commission’s opinion on BiH’s candidate status for the European Union (EU) membership and adopting the NATO Reform Program, BiH has paved its Euro-Atlantic path,” Komsic stated.
Further, he added that if the fulfillment of the undertaken obligations goes according to the planned dynamics, BiH will certainly become a member of NATO and the EU in the future. He also emphasized that retrograde policies seek to stop the realization of the mentioned goals through blockades.
“These blockades, as you yourself said, are not an expression of political wisdom but political weakness. So, I believe that the diplomatic response to the current blockades, which may affect the overall Euro-Atlantic perspective and the future of BiH, must be decisive and unambiguous. BiH’s Euro-Atlantic perspective is not only in the interest of our state but in the general interest of peace and stability in the whole region and in the whole of Europe, ” said Komsic.
Komsic thinks that the common political interest of the EU and BiH is to stop the retrograde political intentions of those political forces that do not recognize international conventions and act contrary to the general interest of all who want peace, security, and stability.
“In the Presidency of BiH, you have a partner who will work diligently to fulfill the international commitments of the state of BiH, despite the fact that one of the members of the Presidency of BiH considers these obligations optional, to put it mildly. I am convinced that the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in BiH can be a factor that will help BiH in the Euro-Atlantic process integration if your engagement is imbued with consistent advocacy of the positive legacy of the OHR, which is primarily reflected in the set of laws that have enabled a minimum of democracy in BiH, ” Komsic concluded, Klix.ba writes.
