Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Elmedin Konakovic met in Riyadh with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Taher Salem Al Baour, where they discussed the political and socio-economic situation, the strengthening of bilateral relations, and opportunities for BiH to share experience from post-war peacebuilding and institution-building.
On the margins of the 11th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the ministers exchanged views on the current political and socio-economic situation in their respective countries.
Konakovic highlighted BiH’s post-conflict experience in peacebuilding, reconciliation, and institutional recovery, expressing readiness to share relevant expertise and lessons learned that could contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at preserving peace and stability in Libya, he announced on the social media platform X.
The talks also focused on further strengthening traditionally friendly bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on economic cooperation, including the promotion of trade, investment opportunities, and closer ties between the business communities of the two countries. Invitations for mutual official visits were also exchanged, confirming a shared commitment to deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The 11th UNAOC Global Forum, which will address topics of global significance, will be held under the title “UNAOC: Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity: Advancing a New Era of Mutual Respect and Understanding in a Multipolar World.”
The forum in Riyadh is being organized in an exceptionally challenging international environment, marked by deepening global divisions, a rise in conflicts around the world, and declining confidence in the effectiveness of global governance systems and multilateral institutions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH said.
At the same time, the gathering will provide an opportunity to mark the 20th anniversary of the UNAOC, as well as to define the future direction of this initiative in the pursuit of lasting peace and the strengthening of mutual understanding.
The UNAOC was founded in 2005 at the initiative of Spain and Turkey, under the auspices of the UN. The Alliance’s core objective is to improve understanding and cooperation among cultures and communities worldwide.
