Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković met on Tuesday with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly during an official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The officials discussed bilateral relations between BiH and the United Kingdom, the current political situation in our country, Euro-Atlantic integration, regional relations and global security issues.
Konaković expressed his sincere gratitude to the United Kingdom for supporting the reform and integration processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that BiH remains committed to the EU path and that the implementation of reform processes and the fulfillment of obligations from the EC Opinion remain priorities in the work of the BiH Council of Ministers.
He pointed out the efficiency of the Council of Ministers, which in the past few months adopted several draft laws and strategies, which are crucial on BiH’s path to the EU. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation when it comes to European integration and the acceleration of the EU enlargement process to the countries of the Western Balkans.
Expressing support for reform processes in BiH, Secretary Cleverly emphasized that the United Kingdom remains committed to providing support to BiH when it comes to protecting territorial integrity and sovereignty, strengthening economic security and the ability to counter security threats.
He announced the expansion of investments in the infrastructure of the Western Balkans through British investment partnerships, as well as investments aimed at increasing energy independence. There was also talk about cooperation in the field of defense. He reiterated that the UK remains committed to the stability and prosperity of the countries of the Western Balkans within the framework of the Berlin process.
