Difficult requirements
During an interview, Konakovic stressed that he hopes that these talks will lead to a small step towards reaching an agreement.
”I believe that after the cooling in Neum, there is room, perhaps not for a final agreement, but for at least a small step forward in terms of relaxation of hard demands. We were motivated to prepare this meeting in terms of organization, and Radoncic and I did that, but the key to these negotiations is in the hands of HDZ and SDA, which have a history of negotiations on the election law and are expected to participate in these negotiations, which is especially connected to the HDZ. Maybe they will slightly lower some rather firmly radical demands, ” Konakovic pointed out.
He denied the information that appeared in some media that today’s meeting will be attended by the director of the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Office, Angelina Eichhorst.
”At the beginning, she certainly won’t, we need, first of all, a human conversation between us actors who had the courage to talk about the future of the state. Eichorst will certainly not be at the beginning of the meeting, that is not the format of the conversation. I do not rule out that some of the international representatives will be present at a later period, but we should agree on that at the meeting as well, ” told Konakovic.
Boycott of the state
Konakovic reiterated that he is sure that the general elections will be held this year, but that in the absence of an agreement, there is a serious danger of “mostarization” of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) and BiH.
”I think that there will be elections, we have a guarantee from the High Representative and the international community and all other actors, and I am not afraid that there will be a blockade of the elections. What may happen, however, is a boycott of the election by a space that respects the will of the Croatian National Parliament (HNS) and this could be a serious problem in the implementation of the election. It is a question of the functioning of all municipal election commissions, polling boards, polling stations, counting of votes… I think that the HNS boycott can create problems and there are signs of the “mostarization” of the Federation and BiH if that happens. There is a model, which was previously applied, that if there were no elected officials for the House of Peoples to fill others, but here we come to the most serious political question of what it means for the state of BiH to boycott the state and its institutions by one people. We should do everything to prevent that from happening,” concluded Konakovic.
