The message from the first meeting of the Working Team of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, which was formed for the purpose of taking the measures in the fight against illegal water consumers and reduction of the debt, is that there will not be amnestied ones among those who have been illegally consuming drinking water resources and showing them as minor water consumption.
The team led by the Prime Minister of CS, Elmedin Konaković, is aware that this situation could not occur without the help and involvement of several employees of Cantonal Public Utility Company “Water and Sewerage,” who are taking off the fillings from the water meters and setting the ordered amounts of water consumption.
As emphasized by the cantonal inspection, this is a classic criminal offense and both the police and the Prosecutor’s Office of SC will have the role in the implementation of these measures.
Complete failure of the Office for the Audit and internal control in the water supply system was emphasized as a serious problem, since they haven’t responded to disproportion that was shown in water consumption in many legal entities, for a long time.
“We can talk here about the cases of broader corruption, at the expense of citizens and their right to have a sufficient quantities of drinking water throughout the whole day. We are starting an unconditional fight against that as well as the clearly poor management of this important utility company, and we are confident that the new management will be part of the solution for this problem. Starting on Monday, we will check out the Office for water meters of this company as well as the workers who are reading the consumption. We will establish the order, and it will take some time but we will not give up, “said the Prime Minister Konaković after yesterday’s meeting.
One of the first measures will be the introduction of electronic water meters with remote reading on localities with the suspicious water consumption, which, as the experts say, will give the accurate data on the consumption of every single liter of water. It is also planned in the following period, to mark forceps for sealing the water meters with the stamps in order to have a clear definition of who is working with them and under whose jurisdiction are particular water meters.
