Kosovo officials signed an agreement with Israeli officials on the abolition of the visa regime for citizens of Kosovo.

The agreement was signed at an official ceremony by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Donika Gervala, and the Minister of the Interior of Israel, Moshe Arbel.

As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Minister Gervala evaluated the signing of this agreement as evidence of strong relations between Kosovo and Israel, which will facilitate the visit of Kosovo citizens to Israel and the creation of cultural and professional ties.

Gervala pointed out that this agreement and the decision to cancel visas will open a new chapter in the promotion of Kosovo, economic cooperation and development, educational development of young people, as well as the implementation of joint projects and initiatives between the citizens of Kosovo and Israel in the future.

The decision on the free movement of citizens of Kosovo to Israel enters into force on September 19, 2024.

On January 29, 2024, the Government of Israel agreed to approve the agreement on the abolition of visas for Kosovars, following the request of the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.

Israel is the last country to recognize independent Kosovo, as part of the Washington Agreement, which Kosovo and Serbia signed on September 4, 2020 in the White House, when President Donald Trump was at the helm of the USA. Kosovo opened its embassy in Jerusalem in July 2021, AA writes.
