The Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo announced that five people were detained today, suspected of the crime of “war crimes” in 1999.
It added that this was done after several months of investigation in cooperation with the Kosovo Police – War Crimes Administration, and in coordination with the security institutions and the court.
The press release states that persons with the initials D.C, D.N, N.S, S.J and M.Š were detained.
It is added that “there is a well-founded suspicion that in co-perpetration with other unidentified members of this group, armed and dressed in camouflage uniforms and regular uniforms of the Serbian police or army, on April 5, 1999, in the early morning hours, they carried out an action in the village of Kokaj, Lovce, Pograđe and Ugljare”.
They are accused of “…intentionally and purposefully killing, wounding, burning Albanian civilian victims alive, taking hostages, raping, beating, harassing, physically and mentally torturing, robbing, destroying the property of Albanians and burning them…”
It is also suspected that they “expelled the Albanian civilian population, destroyed and abused cultural and religious objects”, for “actions that are sanctioned according to local laws, customs of war and Geneva international conventions and additional protocols”.
It is added in the announcement that the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo will take further procedural legal actions for the mentioned persons, until it continues with the investigation of this criminal case.
According to the legal procedure, they will be detained for 48 hours, after which a request for a detention measure will be initiated against them, Beta writes.
