A meeting was held yesterday at the City Administration of Tuzla between Mayor Zijad Lugavic and the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry, Vedran Lakic. The main topic of discussion was the implementation of the Just Transition Project worth over 150 million BAM, aimed at energy recovery and transformation of mining communities.
The meeting was also attended by Minister’s advisor Fadil Nadarevic, Assistant Minister Amir Halilcevic, Director of Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina (EPBiH) Sanel Buljubasic, and Director of the Kreka Mine Elnur Dizdarevic.
Mayor Lugavic thanked Minister Lakic for, as he stated, recognizing Tuzla as a key partner in energy efficiency and transition projects.
“Thanks to the engagement of Minister Lakic, a large number of our projects have been recognized as high-quality and important for improving the quality of life of Tuzla’s citizens. It is especially important that we will co-finance, in cooperation with EPBiH, the installation of solar panels on citizens’ houses, which will directly contribute to energy stability and savings,” said the mayor.
Federal Minister of Energy Vedran Lakic emphasized the strategic importance of the project being implemented with the support of the World Bank.
“The Ministry, in cooperation with the Government of the Federation of BiH (FBiH), has secured 150 million BAM for three mining areas: ‘Kreka’ in Tuzla, ‘Zenica’ in Zenica, and ‘Banovici’ in Banovici. About 28 million BAM is allocated for Kreka, while the City of Tuzla will receive nearly half a million BAM for local development projects. I am particularly pleased to be doing this work in my hometown,” Lakic pointed out.
The Just Transition Project is focused on the rehabilitation of mining land, construction of solar power plants, and development of renewable energy sources, and its implementation is planned for the period 2025–2030. It is expected to bring significant benefits to the energy sector, the local economy, and the standard of living of Tuzla’s citizens.
