The German Embassy Shocked By Deputy CoM’s Letter

The German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is deeply shocked by the letter that Stasa Kosarac, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, sent to the High Representative Christian Schmidt, it was stated by this embassy.

The comparisons, formulations, and actions contained in this letter are unacceptable and undermine the dignity of political dialogue.

Equating Christian Schmidt with the National Socialist regime represents a serious minimization of the crimes of National Socialism and is ultimately inappropriate. Such comparisons are not only in poor taste but also a deliberate distortion of historical facts. Sending an SS helmet as an “artifact” is an additional expression of disrespect and provocation, lacking any form of diplomatic ethics and unbefitting of a holder of public office of a European country that should be on the path to the European Union (EU).

Particularly disturbing is the timing of this action: on the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Nuremberg Trials, which laid the foundations for the legal and moral resolution of NS crimes. Making such inappropriate and hurtful comparisons is unacceptable. The misuse of historical context for political polemics insults the memory of the victims and is contrary to the spirit of international cooperation and responsibility.

The German Embassy reaffirms its support for the High Representative Christian Schmidt and his work in the service of a peaceful, stable, and democratic BiH. At the same time, we appeal to all responsible in the country to return to factual, constructive political discourse full of respect.
