Kremlin: ‘Putin will not extend the Easter Truce’

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not intend to extend the 30-hour Easter truce in Ukraine that he unilaterally declared yesterday at 6 p.m. Moscow time.

“Putin has not issued any order to extend the Easter truce. The truce ends tonight, at midnight from Sunday to Monday Moscow time,” Peskov told reporters in Moscow.

On Saturday, Putin declared a 30-hour unilateral truce to the ongoing war in Ukraine, arguing that the success or failure of a break would show Kiev’s willingness and ability to seek a peaceful solution to the conflict.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that Kiev is proposing to extend the ceasefire for 30 days after Easter if a full ceasefire actually takes effect.
