Serbia records the fewest Babies born in the recent History

In the previous year, 61,052 babies were born in Serbia, which is the lowest in the country’s recent history and 1,648 fewer children than in 2022, writes “Politika“, referring to the data of the Republic Institute of Statistics.

These data, the newspaper states, warn that from 2014 to 2023, the number of inhabitants was reduced by as many as 434,606 people based on negative natural growth alone.

Only eight municipalities had a positive natural increase last year, i.e. a higher number of births than deaths, and among them are Tutin, Novi Pazar, Sjenica, Preševo, Bujanovac and Novi Sad.

The only Belgrade municipality that has a positive natural increase is Zvezdara – even though almost a quarter of Serbia lives in the capital, the paper states.
