The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 120-112 in the North American NBA league at home. 40-year-old veteran LeBron James excelled, scoring 42 points, adding 17 rebounds and eight assists.
At 40 years and 38 days, James became the oldest player in NBA history to score 40 or more points.
Austin Reaves scored 23 points, while Gabe Vincent hit five three-pointers for the Lakers, who achieved their fourth consecutive victory and tenth in the last 12 games. Los Angeles came to another victory with Luka Dončić watching the game from the bench.
Stephen Curry scored 37 points for the Warriors, but James emerged as the winner of their latest duel.
James scored 18 points in the second quarter as the Lakers increased their lead, but Golden State launched a 32-12 series just before halftime. Curry scored 22 points in the second half.
Curry shot 13 of 35 from the field and hit six 3-pointers, and his 20 three-point attempts tied for fifth-most in his career. He cut the Lakers’ lead to 109-104 with just over three minutes left, but James hit his sixth 3-pointer with 1:08 left in the game.
The Dallas Mavericks defeated last year’s champions 127-120 in Boston. Klay Thompson led the visitors with 25 points, 23 of which came in the first half. Spencer Dinwiddie added 22 points, while Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 25 points.
