Legendary former Italian football referee, Pierluigi Collina, has arrived in Sarajevo.
Collina arrived in Sarajevo today due to work obligations, and he used the opportunity to take a walk through Baščaršija.
The appearance of the famous referee has not gone unnoticed, and some of the citizens of Sarajevo stopped to greet him and take photos with him, to which Collina responded positively. He is staying in Sarajevo until tomorrow.
Collina is considered as one of the best referees of his generation. He began his career back in 1988, and until 1991 he was judge in the Italian Serie C1 and C3. From 1991 to 2005, he judged the matches of the Italian Series B and A.
FIFA declared him to be the best referee six times in a row, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. He was declared as the best judge in the Italian Serie A seven times, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
He became a FIFA referee in 1995, and ended his career in 2005.
He has received an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 2004 from the University of Hull for his contribution to the world of sports. He was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Collina now works as head of UEFA referees.
