The best female cyclist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lejla Njemčević, won the gold medal at the Balkan Championship in Romania, which was also a UCI C2 race, with a dominant victory.

With this result and winning 30 new UCI points, she showed that she is in excellent shape. On an extremely demanding 72 km long course with 2,500 meters of ascent, Njemčević took the lead from the start of the race. This is her most convincing victory at the Balkan championships, but also one of her biggest result advantages in her career so far.

With this triumph, Njemčević won her sixth title of Balkan champion in the strongest Elite category. Given that she now has six gold medals in Elite and two silver medals in the U23 category in her collection, she has become the best and most successful Balkan cyclist of all time.

“I am very proud that I won gold for Bosnia and Herzegovina and wore the shirt of the Balkan champion for the sixth time. I am especially pleased that the system of mental and physical preparation of coach Amar Njemčević proved to be excellent in what was, for us, a very difficult season, in which I also suffered an injury at the European Championship. However, we managed to keep our top form,” said Lejla Njemčević after the race.

As announced by her team, this was the BiH cyclist’s third UCI victory of the season, and already on Monday, August 17, she will travel to high-altitude preparations for the World Championship, which will be held in Italy on September 12. Immediately after that, there will be a performance at the finals of the World Cup in Girona, Spain.
